Alma Care

Alma started as Canada's first postnatal retreat and moved primarily to in-home care because the retreat could only serve a few families at a time. It now sends a care team — night nurses, lactation consultants, massage therapists, doulas — into homes across Ontario, and tracks outcomes with standard mental-health screening plus weekly check-ins against each family's goals. Melissa Gallagher co-founded it after her first daughter's birth in 2022 showed her that Canadian postpartum care effectively ends at a six-week check-in. She told TechTO in October 2025 that about one in four women experience postpartum depression and fewer than a third receive treatment, and that the company plans to expand nationally and sell through employer benefits.
