About

Checkout 51 built a weekly list of cash-back offers on grocery and household products, funded by the brands behind them. Users photographed a receipt, and OCR plus per-retailer parsers resolved the line items down to SKU level; payouts came at $20. Noah Godfrey presented its approach to experimentation and A/B testing at TechTO in May 2015 — his rule of thumb was to find the fastest, cheapest, dirtiest way to kill an unknown, getting eighty percent of the information in five percent of the time. News America Marketing, a News Corp division, acquired the company two months later. News Corp sold that business to Charlesbank Capital Partners in 2020 and it was renamed Neptune Retail Solutions, where the Checkout 51 brand still runs.
