About

Candice Faktor was Wattpad's global general manager and head of business, scaling it toward 80 million users before its US$660-million sale in 2021, and had co-founded Torstar Digital before that; she launched the seed fund Faktory Ventures in 2017. Chris Sukornyk had founded six venture-backed companies, most recently Chango, acquired in 2015. They started Disco in 2020 for people who teach for a living β€” accelerators, training businesses, customer-education and internal L&D teams β€” with programs, community and analytics in one place. The company raised a US$4.75-million seed from Inovia Capital, Golden Ventures, StandUp Ventures and GSV Ventures with angels, then a $15-million Series A in 2022 from investors behind MasterClass and Coursera. Its current positioning is AI-native: an Ask AI feature that answers learners from the organisation's own content and discussions. Faktor spoke at TechTO in 2017 for Faktory Ventures and again in 2025 with StandUp Ventures.

Backers

Inovia Capital, Golden Ventures, StandUp Ventures and GSV Ventures backed the US$4.75-million seed alongside angel investors; the $15-million Series A came from investors behind MasterClass and Coursera.
