About
Firmex was founded in Toronto in 2006 and built its business on the deal room rather than the enterprise content platform: a room is opened for a transaction, run for the length of the diligence, and closed. It says it has served 223,000+ companies in 180+ countries and now supports over 250,000 users opening 20,000 new projects a year, from investment banking through renewable energy. Datasite announced its acquisition of Firmex on 26 July 2021, buying it from majority owners Vertu Capital and BDC Growth Equity Partners Fund I; Firmex has continued to run as its own business unit and brand since. Its head office is at 110 Spadina Avenue in Toronto, with further offices in London and San José, Costa Rica. Maria Hristova, appointed vice-president of engineering in October 2020, spoke for the company at TechTO's International Women's Day event in March 2022.
Backers
Owned by Datasite since July 2021. Before that the majority owners were Vertu Capital, the Toronto private equity firm, and BDC Growth Equity Partners Fund I, managed by BDC Capital — both named in the acquisition announcement. Terms were not disclosed.
