About
HelloGbye was a travel-booking app you talked to instead of filling in forms. A traveller typed or dictated a full request — "fly me to New York on the 10th, then Chicago on the 13th, then Miami on the 17th" — and natural-language parsing turned it into a priced, bookable itinerary in seconds, for up to nine travellers at once. Greg Apple demoed it on the TechTO stage twice, in August 2016 ("we're a Toronto based startup") and again at TravelTechTO in July 2017. It launched on the App Store on 21 March 2017: free to try, with a $19-a-month subscription that added fee-free itinerary changes, preferred hotel rates and up to two percent cash back on hotels, and hotel search analytics powered by American Express. Founder Jonathan Miller told press the idea came from trying and failing to find a hotel room from the road during a storm. HelloGbye was a brand of Amgine Technologies; the consumer app later gave way to selling booking automation to travel agencies, and it was reported as no longer operating in April 2020. Amgine still trades, selling AI booking automation to travel management companies.
