About

Heyday was founded in Montreal in 2017 by Steve Desjarlais and Étienne Mérineau, among others, to build conversational commerce for retailers: an AI assistant that sat on a brand's website and messaging channels, answered product questions and handled service, and turned the conversation into a sale. Mérineau made the market argument at MarketingTO in December 2019 — that after portals, search and apps, messaging had become the interface, with roughly nine billion combined users across the top four messaging apps, that 90% of shopping now starts online while only about 11% of purchases happen there, and that businesses had gone from broadcast to one-to-one. He said the company had spent 2016 on R&D, started commercialising in 2017, and was 45 people at the time of the talk. Hootsuite acquired Heyday in August 2021 in a deal reported at about CA$60 million, folding the technology into its social commerce products; Heyday had around 70 employees at acquisition.

Backers
