About
Index Exchange runs a global programmatic marketplace connecting premium publishers and media owners with advertisers bidding in real time. It was founded in Toronto in 2003 as Casale Media by Andrew Casale, who started the venture as a teenager, and rebranded to Index Exchange in 2015. The company co-authored the OpenRTB specification, pioneered header bidding in 2016, acquired machine-learning company Rivr in 2022, and put Index Cloud into closed beta in 2026. It remains independent and privately held. SVP of product Drew Bradstock used his 2018 TechTO stage time to argue that the industry's dependence on cookies fragments audiences into pockets too small to address at scale, and that identity was where the opportunity lay outside the walled gardens.
Backers
The company describes itself as independent and privately held; no outside investors were found in any source.
