About

KitchenMate automates the office canteen. Refrigerated, tamper-proof meal-pods holding fresh prepared food are delivered once or twice a week and cooked on demand in a connected countertop cooker; teams vote on which dishes arrive next. Yang Yu founded the company in Toronto after a stint as chief product officer at Opencare, and raised a US$3.5 million seed round led by Eniac Ventures and Golden Ventures with participation from FJ Labs and Techstars. Yu, along with co-founders Aditya Bali and Arwid Bancevicius, now runs Micromart, which operates 24/7 fresh-food micro-markets in workplaces, condos, colleges and hospitals.
