About

Left was a technology, media and innovation company based in Maple Ridge, British Columbia — deliberately outside Vancouver's core, a point its co-founders made often. Founded around 2010 by John Lyotier and Chris Jensen, it ran a network of consumer travel brands (including rentbyowner.com and cruise and rental-home sites) that Lyotier said pushed roughly US$350 million in travel bookings a year by 2017. Left also built RightMesh, a peer-to-peer mobile mesh network that let devices connect and share without the internet, with an engineering team in Bangladesh. The company was a certified B Corp and won repeated best-workplace recognition in BC. Left did not survive the 2020 pandemic and wound down that August; Lyotier went on to found TravelAI and the UpNext Group.

Backers

Left was privately held; its RightMesh unit pursued a token sale in 2018. Overall funding is not detailed here.
