Looka

Looka is a Toronto design platform that generates logos and full brand kits from a few answers about a business, using machine learning rather than a designer's hours. Dawson Whitfield launched it as Logojoy in November 2016, raised a $6 million Series A in 2018, and renamed it Looka in April 2019.

About

Dawson Whitfield spent a decade designing logos for clients before deciding the low end of that market did not need a designer at all — it needed something that could produce a decent mark in minutes at a price a new business would actually pay. He launched Logojoy in November 2016, working with CTO Andrew B. Martin to put machine learning behind the generation step. The company raised roughly $900,000 from angel investors in 2017 and a $6 million Series A led by Real Ventures with Boston's Flybridge Capital in 2018. It demoed the product at TechTO's MarketingTO in June 2018. In April 2019 it rebranded as Looka, expanding from logos into brand kits, websites and the surrounding identity work.

Backers

Real Ventures led the 2018 Series A with participation from Flybridge Capital, following about $900,000 from angel investors in 2017.
