About
Mercatus Technologies has sold e-commerce software to grocers since 2004, running digital storefronts, pickup and delivery fulfilment, and loyalty and personalisation for regional chains and independents. Its customers are the grocers large enough to need omnichannel operations but too small to build them — the company has described a base of more than 1,800 regional grocery stores in the United States and over 400 independent grocers across the UK, France and Canada. In 2023 Mercatus merged with Stor.ai, a Tel Aviv e-commerce platform for independent grocers, and the combined business became a wholly owned subsidiary of Relationshop, which had acquired Stor.ai in January of that year. The combined company kept the Mercatus name. Bohdan Zabawskyj was Mercatus's CTO when he spoke at TechTO in March 2016; he told the room he had hired several hundred people over a career at ClearNet, Rypple and Redknee, and that his teams' work had been associated with roughly $8 billion of created wealth.
Backers
Ownership is corporate rather than venture: since the 2023 Stor.ai merger, Mercatus has operated as a wholly owned subsidiary of Relationshop. Earlier funding history was not confirmed here.
