About
Micromart's product is a single cabinet that turns any spot with a power outlet into an unattended store. A customer taps to unlock, takes the items they want, and closes the door; camera-based product recognition works out what left the shelf and issues a receipt, with no scanning and no attendant. That is the same just-walk-out idea as a full automated store, packaged small enough to sit in an office lobby, a gym or a factory break room. The technology came out of KitchenMate, the Toronto fresh-meals service Yang Yu co-founded, which sold more than a quarter of a million items through its own units before the team white-labelled the hardware and software for vending operators, micro-market operators and foodservice companies across the United States and Canada. The units are designed and built in Canada. The company launched the smart-store product publicly in 2024 and says roughly 2,000 stores are now deployed, with 99.9 percent uptime and 99.9 percent transaction payout on its own reporting. Yang Yu is chief executive.
