About
MobileSyrup reports Canadian mobile and consumer technology news — carrier plans, device launches, gaming and reviews — for a domestic audience that international tech sites largely skip. It launched in 2007 and stayed independent and ad-supported until Blue Ant Media acquired it in October 2020, when the publication was described as reaching two million unique visitors a month, mostly Canadian men aged 25 to 49. Blue Ant sold it to ZoomerMedia in June 2024 in a transaction valued at $950,000, which closed on 25 June and folded the title into the Zoomer Digital Network. Reporter Shruti Shekar brought a journalist's view of the industry to TechTO's MarketingTO in April 2019, arguing that 'digital transformation' had become a phrase that meant almost nothing to the people who had to write about it: what she actually heard from the companies she interviewed was either building the tools that let other businesses change how they work, or changing their own. She sketched the first wave — the iPhone in 2007, Facebook in 2004, Twitter in 2006 — and told the room a second wave was already under way.
Backers
Owned by ZoomerMedia, which bought the publication from Blue Ant Media in June 2024. Not venture-backed.
