About

PointClickCare builds the electronic health record and cloud platform that long-term and post-acute care providers run their business on — the part of healthcare Mike Wessinger called 'the redheaded stepchild' from the TechTO stage in 2018. The Wessinger brothers bootstrapped it for years: as Mike told the room, they were pitching 'putting healthcare records on the internet' before SaaS was a term and nobody called it the cloud, so money was hard to raise. The company's thesis is the 'silver tsunami' — people start consuming long-term care around age 83, a demographic that was flat for a decade and is now climbing. Mike was CEO from 1995 until 2021, when his brother and co-founder Dave Wessinger took over and Mike became executive chair.

Backers

Hellman & Friedman and JMI Equity are reported as the major shareholders, having increased their stakes via a 2021 secondary at a US$5B valuation. Bootstrapped for its early years. Cap table not independently confirmed.

Quick answers

What does PointClickCare do?

Cloud software for long-term and post-acute care — nursing homes, assisted living and home health. It holds the patient record: on the TechTO stage in 2018 Mike Wessinger said that if you have a loved one in a nursing home anywhere in North America, there's a two-thirds chance PointClickCare manages their record.

Who founded PointClickCare?

Brothers Mike and Dave Wessinger, in 1995 in Mississauga. Mike was CEO until 2021 and is now executive chair; Dave has been CEO since September 2021.

Why does PointClickCare talk about a 'silver tsunami'?

Because people start consuming long-term and post-acute care at around age 83, and that demographic was flat for a decade — few children were born during the Depression. Mike Wessinger told TechTO in 2020 that it bottomed out the year before and that the wave of demand would hit roughly three years out.

Where is PointClickCare based?

Mississauga, Ontario. Mike Wessinger noted on the TechTO stage in 2018 that most of the company's revenue comes from the United States while most of its people are in Mississauga.
