About
OpenPhone started as a better phone number for a business: shared numbers, threaded messages and calls in one app, no desk hardware. The 2025 rebrand was an argument that the phone had stopped being the point. Chief executive and co-founder Mahyar Raissi wrote that the company had spent years building toward customers never being missed, and that the name should describe the outcome rather than the channel — so on 23 September 2025 OpenPhone became Quo, announcing US$105 million in growth financing at the same time, the bulk of it from General Catalyst's customer value fund. The product the rebrand centres on is Sona, the AI agent it launched in April 2025: originally a way to answer calls a business missed, now positioned as a front-office worker that handles sales, support and scheduling conversations across channels. The company was Canadian-founded and remains a fixture of the Toronto product community through its co-founders. Raissi continues as chief executive. Daryna Kulya, who ran product and operations and founded Product Hunt Toronto, announced the rebrand day as her last as a co-founder of the company.
Backers
General Catalyst's customer value fund provided US$96M of the US$105M growth financing announced in September 2025; the company had raised venture rounds under the OpenPhone name before that.
