About

Redbrick's model is to own several digital businesses outright and give them one back office. Tobyn Sowden started it in Victoria in 2011 and it has stayed bootstrapped, funding acquisitions from operations rather than outside capital — the largest being Leadpages, the Minneapolis lead-generation platform, in March 2020. Its current portfolio spans Animoto for video creation, Delivra for email marketing, Duplex for content discovery, Leadpages, the newsletter ad network Paved, and Shift, a browser for people juggling several email and app accounts, which began as a tool Redbrick built for itself. The group's operating companies keep their own brands and teams while Redbrick supplies executive oversight and shared people, finance and creative functions. It is a certified B Corp and has been named one of Canada's Top Small and Medium Employers seven years running. Rory Capern is chief operating officer and leads M&A.

Backers

Bootstrapped — Redbrick has not raised outside funding and finances acquisitions from operations, as it states in interviews and on its site.
