About
Kim Kaplan spent eight years at Plenty of Fish, joining as employee number six and running product and marketing through its 2015 sale to Match Group for US$575 million. She started Snack in 2021 on the argument that the photo-grid dating profile had been overtaken by short video: users post video clips and the app matches on them, a format she pitched as "Tinder meets TikTok for Gen Z's who are over filters and first-date letdowns." The company announced a US$3.5 million pre-seed in February 2021, co-led by Kindred Ventures and Coelius Capital with Golden Ventures, Garage Capital, Panache Ventures and N49P Ventures participating. In May 2021 it launched a Gen Z Syndicate on AngelList so users, creators and influencers could invest alongside institutions in a US$2 million SAFE — an unusual move for a consumer app, and the thing most of the press coverage picked up.
