About
Tamar Huggins started Tech Spark in 2015 after running DRIVEN, a Canadian accelerator for BIPOC-led startups. The school teaches coding and design to students who are largely absent from mainstream STEM programs — girls and children of colour — and reached 1,500 students in its first two years. In 2023 Huggins raised US$1.4M to build Spark Plug AI, a learning tool designed to respond in students' own cultural and linguistic context rather than a generic register.
