On the TechTO stage
The #1 thing to being happy and successful | Neil Wainwright, CEO of UpHabit

About
Neil Wainwright built UpHabit's first version in February 2019 after a career that ran through Nortel, Lotus and IBM and several companies of his own. The product is a personal CRM: it organises the contacts someone already has, adds context and notes, and nudges them to follow up before a relationship goes cold — later extended to sales teams whose company CRM tracks accounts but not the people inside them. His TechTO talk in January 2020 was an argument for why that matters, built on a long Harvard study finding relationships to be the strongest predictor of long-term wellbeing, and on his own experience: he said keeping his professional network warm was worth an extra five million dollars on the exit of an expense management company he ran, because the buyer's confidence came from people who already knew him.
Backers
No funding rounds were confirmed. Wainwright is described consistently as the founder and CEO; whether the company raised outside capital is not established here.
Quick answers
What is UpHabit?
A personal CRM. It organises someone's existing contacts, keeps notes and context against them, and reminds the user to follow up — with a team version aimed at salespeople whose company CRM tracks accounts rather than people.
Who built UpHabit?
Neil Wainwright, a serial entrepreneur with earlier senior roles at Nortel, Lotus and IBM. The first version shipped in February 2019.
What was UpHabit's TechTO talk about?
Wainwright argued in January 2020 that relationships are the single best predictor of long-term success and wellbeing, citing a long-running Harvard study and his own experience of a warm network materially improving a previous exit.
