About
Urbery, founded by Mudit Rawat in Toronto, ran grocery delivery without owning any inventory: shoppers it called Grocery Gurus bought from whichever store the customer picked, and the customer followed the driver in an app. Rawat's argument in 2016 was that the warehouse model everyone else was building was capital-intensive and too slow to carry alcohol, which Urbery delivered at $10 per three bottles. The service covered the Greater Toronto Area and had plans for Ottawa, Montreal and the US. Rohan Jayasekera — who had earlier co-founded Sympatico and built it as CTO — was Urbery's chief technology officer when he took the TechTO stage in April 2017 with a talk on Toronto world firsts. Urbery has since closed; Jayasekera is now CTO at the Toronto office-catering company hungerhub.
