About
Renewable diesel and sustainable aviation fuel are made from waste fats and oils, and the hard part of that business is not the chemistry but the sourcing: thousands of small collectors, prices that move with policy, trade routes that reroute on a regulatory change, and buyers large enough that most suppliers cannot sell to them directly. WayTrade puts a marketplace between the two sides. It aggregates a screened network of feedstock suppliers, gives them access to global fuel producers whose accounts would otherwise be too large or too onerous to enter alone, and handles the logistics, compliance documentation, pricing optimisation and tracking that a low-carbon-intensity trade requires. The company describes itself as trying to make aggregators and producers more efficient and more profitable rather than to displace them, and says its team comes out of logistics, marketplaces and the industry itself, with backgrounds at Goldman Sachs, Uber and Gopuff. Founder and chief executive Ben Zifkin previously built Hubba, the Toronto B2B marketplace for emerging consumer brands, which raised more than $60 million before winding down in 2021. Its published investors are Construct Capital, Village Global, Silence VC, MaC Venture Capital, Maple VC and Graph Ventures.
