About
Aspect Biosystems began in a UBC lab and was in the first cohort of the entrepreneurship@UBC program — Tamer Mohamed calls the team the guinea pigs of that program. The company's mission, as he puts it on the TechTO stage, is bioprinted tissue therapeutics: living tissues implanted inside the body to replace damaged function. Its lead programme is a pancreatic tissue implant for type 1 diabetes that senses glucose and releases insulin; it is also working on printed liver tissue as a bridge to transplant. Novo Nordisk partnered with it in 2023, and a US$115M Series B led by Dimension followed in January 2025.

Dimension led the US$115M Series B, with Novo Nordisk, Radical Ventures, InBC, Pallasite Ventures, Pangaea Ventures, Rhino Ventures and the T1D Fund participating. The Government of Canada and the Province of BC are non-dilutive partners.
