About

Endy launched in 2015 as a direct-to-consumer bet that Canadians would buy a mattress online, sight unseen, on the strength of a 100-night trial and free delivery. It sold a single foam mattress at one price rather than a showroom's worth of options, and expanded into pillows, bedding and bed frames. In November 2018 Sleep Country Canada — the country's largest mattress retailer — agreed to acquire it for up to $89 million, one of the larger Canadian direct-to-consumer exits of that period. Endy continues to operate as a subsidiary brand; its founders stayed on after the deal, Gettis as chief executive and Ruparell as chairman, and told BetaKit at the time that they wanted the company to stay independent and Canadian.
