About

SkyPrep sells a learning management system built for companies that need to deliver and track training without a heavy implementation. The company was founded by three brothers — Babak Barkhodaei as CEO, Arash as CTO and Sepand as product lead — and BetaKit reported in March 2014 that the platform had launched in January 2013 after a beta, reached 100,000 learners and was growing paying clients 14 per cent a month, with the YMCA and the Buffalo Bills among its customers. At TechTO in January 2017 two of the team, Sara and Yihua, demoed the company's second product: BoostHQ, a knowledge-sharing tool built after customers said SkyPrep handled formal enterprise training well but nothing reflected how employees actually learn day to day — asking a colleague or searching. They told the room SkyPrep had grown past 500 customers including TIFF and the Vancouver Canucks, and had been named one of North America's top LMS platforms, the award they were proudest of being most user-friendly. The company today lists SkyPrep LMS alongside Studio, Unity, Library and BoostHQ, and says it serves over a million users at more than 500 companies from an office on Queen Street East.

No outside funding is on the public record; the 2014 BetaKit profile of the founding brothers mentions none.

Quick answers

What does SkyPrep do?

It sells a cloud learning management system used to deliver and track training for employees, customers and partners, plus a knowledge-sharing tool called BoostHQ and content-authoring and collaborative-learning products.

Who founded SkyPrep?

Three brothers: Babak Barkhodaei (CEO), Arash Barkhodaee (CTO) and Sepand Barkhodaee (chief product officer). BetaKit profiled the sibling founding team in March 2014.

What was BoostHQ?

A knowledge-sharing product SkyPrep demoed at TechTO in January 2017. The team said customers used SkyPrep for formal enterprise training but had no tool for the informal, day-to-day knowledge exchange between colleagues, so they spent a year building one.
